We are finally building!  After 9 years of debating on whether to bite the bullet and build a custom home it is finally time. With my parents getting older and my father being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease we decided to move them down from Baltimore and have them live with/next to us to make life easier.

Since I absolutely love design and get asked about building or renovating homes I thought it would be fun to document the process. I spent a lot of time researching on what I wanted our home to look like and how I wanted it to flow. We also had some unique conditions since I knew I wanted to have my parents close by but at the same time ensure that we had our own separate spaces. So with all of that in mind we started laying out the interior. We worked with Align Design Associates to bring our concept drawings to life. What will really make this home special is the fact that my 83 year old father in-law came out of retirement to build it.

I hope you enjoy the updates and please feel free to reach out if you have any building/design questions. I may not know all the answers but I have definitely learned quite a bit in the process.

This is amazing… my husband is in the industry and the “flow” is so key in my opinion.

How wonderful to be able to do this! I’m so happy you will be able to have your family together this way. It’s a dream of mine as well-maybe someday!
